PROGRAM/GOAL OVERVIEW
Established in 1977, GOAL is an international humanitarian agency, with a team of 2,400 people, dedicated to alleviating the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Currently registered in 14 of the world's most vulnerable countries, GOAL offers a wide range of humanitarian and development programmes, ranging from humanitarian aid in disaster situations to focusing on nutrition, food security and building greater resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
The Programme Innovation Lab is a dynamic and collaborative unit established by GOAL to foster the innovation that emerges from its programmes and promote it within the organisation and the wider humanitarian and development community. The Lab is an open space that facilitates collaboration and partnership between innovation champions within GOAL and key external strategic partners in order to support innovations that can be scaled to overcome humanitarian crises. GOAL’s innovations include but are not limited to programmatic approaches, digital technologies, and various engineering solutions.
The "Programme Innovation Lab" (referred to as the Lab) is led by the Digital Technology Programmes Specialist, and is part of GOAL’s Programme Technical Team (PTT) with team members based in various countries around the world. This specific role is managed through the GOAL Honduras country office alongside key Lab staff also based in Honduras.
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The main objective of the Innovation Support Officer is to provide support to the Lab and Programme Technical Team, facilitating the development and management of innovation projects and communications. In addition, the Innovation Support Officer will help ensure innovation projects comply with internal procedures and external policies; enhance knowledge and skills related to GOAL innovations internally and externally; increase funding allocation for innovation; and foster new strategic partnerships with companies, academic/research institutions, and other relevant partners who share GOAL's values in leveraging technology to address humanitarian challenges.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS
Support innovation projects – coordinate project proposal processes, task allocations, partnership and procurement arrangements, and donor reporting.
Help identify funding and research opportunities relevant to innovations in GOAL programmes.
Coordinate trainings, workshops, learning events and other knowledge sharing activities relating to programme innovations.
Collaborate in the preparation of key presentations and other communication products.
Prepare and manage meetings for the Lab internally and those involving external partners.
Support the preparation and/or monitoring of the Lab's annual work plan and innovation project operational plans.
Support the Lab team by preparing or revising high-quality written material in English.
Other responsibilities:
Be prepared to undertake a wide range of other activities related to innovation.
Other duties as may be assigned by the Project Manager, within the framework of the program’s objectives and needs.
MINIMUM PROFILE REQUIRED
Professional Studies:
Bachelor's degree in social sciences, environmental sciences, or relevant studies. A master's degree is an advantage.
Professional Experience:
- Previous experience in support or project management roles, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
Experience in preparing technical reports, manuals or other written materials.
Familiarity with working in multicultural environments and with multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge:
Keen interest in innovative humanitarian / development programmatic approaches, digital technologies, and/or engineering solutions for social impact
Familiarity with the project management cycle
- Understanding the challenges and needs of the global humanitarian sector
Ability to use office software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Competencies:
100% professional fluency in written and spoken English (since the role involves verbal and written communication entirely in English).
Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to relate to people with respect, as this job involves interaction with different people and cultures.
Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, accountability, integrity, and self-motivation.
Good project management skills (staying focused under pressure, time management, working alone, teamwork, communication, and perseverance).
Ability to follow policies and procedures with some understanding of compliance and risk management.
COORDINATION
The professional will report to the Programme Innovation Advisor and will collaborate with members of the Lab, PTT, as well as with country office staff across GOAL.
RESOURCES
For the development of the activities, GOAL will provide the necessary equipment to carry out the project activities.
